Dear Editor:

A premise of the Oneonta "Daily Star's" Aug. 21 editorial
regarding recent protests by Catholics at Planned Parenthood
clinics in Sidney and Oneonta seems to be that protesters are
only opposed to abortion. PP makes most of its money by selling
contraceptives which is another reason why the Catholic Church
has historically opposed the PP agenda.

Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical, "The Gospel of Life,"
summed it up best in the following excerpt from section 13.

"The close connection which exists, in mentality, between
the practice of contraception and that of abortion is becoming
increasingly obvious. It is being demonstrated in an alarming
way by the development of chemical products, intrauterine
devices and vaccines which, distributed with the same ease as
contraceptives, really act as abortifacients in the very early
stages of the development of the life of the new human being."

Yours truly,
